Meet Matt

From here. For here.

Matt Carlson is a fourth-generation Adams County resident with 25 years in law enforcement, starting in the military and continuing in civilian policing as an officer with the Ritzville Police Department.

He decided to run after hearing from residents across the county that they had lost trust and respect for the Sheriff's Office. That trust is the foundation of every call for help, every investigation and every deputy's safety on a long county road at night.

Matt is running to rebuild it: a jail that is safe again, an office that is fully staffed, and real partnerships with every agency in Adams County.

Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)
Faith & Service

Rebuild the walls

When Nehemiah came home and found the walls broken down, he didn't wait for someone else to fix them. He organized his neighbors, posted guards and rebuilt, one section at a time.

“Those who carried burdens were loaded in such a way that each labored on the work with one hand and held his weapon with the other.”
Nehemiah 4:17 (ESV)
Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

Answering the call

When the call went out, Isaiah didn't wait to be drafted. Matt has answered the call to serve for 25 years, in uniform and on patrol, and he's answering it again.

“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Exodus 18:21 (KJV)

Leaders worth trusting

Moses was told to choose leaders of character to keep order among the people. Trust in a Sheriff's Office starts with the honesty of the people who run it.

“Able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.”

Micah 6:8 (KJV)

Justice with mercy

Firm on crime and fair to every person. A sheriff enforces the law with the same standard for everyone, and treats the people he serves with respect.

“Do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”

Not tearing down. Building back.

A sheriff protects every resident of the county equally. For Matt, faith is the reason for service, not a test for who receives it.

Top Three Goals

Safe. Staffed. Trusted.

The Sheriff answers to the people of Adams County. These are the three things Matt will work on from day one.

1

A safe, efficient jail

Re-establish a county jail that is properly staffed and safe for the officers who work there and the people held there.

2

A fully staffed office

Recruit and keep good deputies and staff in every division, so patrol, the jail and the front office have the people they need.

3

Partners across the county

Mend relationships and build working partnerships with the police departments and agencies across Adams County.

From the wheat ground around Ritzville to the fields around Othello, every community deserves the same response and the same respect.
